How to Find Your Skin Tone in 30 Seconds

After making jewelry for over 5,000 customers, I’ve noticed patterns in which gemstone colors people gravitate towards, and it often tracks with their skin tone and undertone. But you don’t need a color consultant to figure this out. Here’s the quick method I tell my customers:

Look at the veins on the inside of your wrist in natural daylight (this simple test is also recommended by the Gemological Institute of America):

Blue or purple veins → you likely have a cool undertone
Green or olive veins → you likely have a warm undertone
A mix of both → you likely have a neutral undertone (lucky you, everything works!)

Another easy test: do you look better in pure white or off-white/cream? Pure white = cool. Cream = warm. Both look fine? Neutral.

Most people are actually neutral, meaning a mix of warm and cool. If the vein test gives you unclear results, you’re probably neutral. Does the metal color matter too?

Yes, and this is actually easier than gemstone matching. Warm undertones tend to look best in yellow gold. Cool undertones often prefer white gold or silver.
