KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Measure your wrist with a flexible tape or a simple thread, then add 1 inch for comfort
  • If you’re between two sizes, always go for the larger one
  • Gemstone size and clasp type both affect how a bracelet fits
  • Most women’s bracelet lengths range from 6.5 to 8 inches

How to Measure Your Wrist

As a jewelry designer, I’ve seen so many of us struggle with choosing the right bracelet size. It’s such a frustration to order a bracelet and have it show up too tight or too loose, right? The good news is that measuring your wrist is really simple. Here are two easy methods:

Method 1: Flexible Measuring Tape

  1. Wrap the tape around your wrist just above the wrist bone, where you would normally wear a bracelet
  2. Note the measurement where the tape meets, keeping it snug but not tight
  3. Add 1 inch (2.5 cm) to get your ideal bracelet length

Method 2: Thread or String

  1. Wrap a thread or piece of string around your wrist where you’d wear a bracelet
  2. Mark the point where the string meets and lay it flat
  3. Measure the string with a ruler to get your wrist size
  4. Add 1 inch (2.5 cm) for a comfortable bracelet length

PRO TIP

If you already own a bracelet that fits well, simply measure it from end to end (including the clasp). That’s your bracelet length! No wrist measuring needed.

Finding Your Perfect Fit

Everyone has different preferences for how a bracelet should sit on their wrist. Here’s a quick guide to fit styles:

  • Snug fit (add 0.5 inch): The bracelet sits close to your wrist with minimal movement. Best for delicate chain bracelets that you want to stay in place.
  • Comfortable fit (add 1 inch): This is the standard I recommend. The bracelet moves a little but doesn’t slide up and down your arm. Perfect for most gemstone bracelets.
  • Loose fit (add 1.5 inches): The bracelet hangs more freely on your wrist. Some people love this relaxed look, especially for thicker or more substantial bracelets.

When you order from Valltasy, I include the total bracelet length (including the clasp) in every listing. If you’re ever unsure, just send me a message and I’ll help you choose the right size ❤️

Important Sizing Notes

A few extra things to keep in mind when choosing your bracelet length:

  • Measurement includes the clasp: The bracelet length I list is always from end to end, including the clasp itself.
  • Gemstone size matters: Larger gemstones take up more volume on your wrist. If you’re choosing a bracelet with bigger stones, you may need a slightly longer total length (about 0.25 to 0.5 inches more).
  • Clasp type affects length: A magnetic clasp needs about 0.25 inches less total length than a lobster clasp because it sits flatter against the wrist.
  • Between two sizes? Always order the larger size. A slightly loose bracelet looks and feels better than one that’s too tight.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Bracelet Length FAQ

What is the most common bracelet length for women?

The most common bracelet length for women is 7 to 7.5 inches. However, this varies based on your wrist size. Women with smaller wrists (5.5 to 6 inches) typically need a 6.5 to 7 inch bracelet, while larger wrists (7 inches and above) may need 8 inches or more.

A well-fitting bracelet should move slightly on your wrist but not slide all the way to your hand. You should be able to fit one finger comfortably between the bracelet and your wrist. If it leaves marks on your skin, it’s too tight.

Measure whichever wrist you plan to wear the bracelet on. Your dominant hand is usually slightly larger (about 0.25 inches more) due to muscle development. If you wear bracelets on both wrists, measure both to be sure.

Silk-knotted bracelets have a bit more flexibility and drape than chain bracelets. They tend to sit comfortably even if they’re slightly longer because the silk thread conforms to your wrist shape. Chain bracelets are more rigid and benefit from a more precise fit.

If your bracelet feels too long, contact me and we can discuss adjusting it. For silk-knotted bracelets, it’s usually possible to shorten them. For most designs, I can also add an extension chain so you can adjust the fit yourself.

Yes! Most of my bracelet designs can be made in custom lengths. Just let me know your wrist measurement when you order, or visit my custom orders page for details.
